The word ASSI comes from the traditional Korean title for a young married woman. ASSI brand symbolizes the Korean gril’s wedding costume, and was first introduced in 1976 and has grown into as our flagship brand. ASSI has been recognized as the standard for Korean food products.
So there you go. There you go.
Soup base and a package of noodles.
Click image to enlarge. So here’s the finished product. It’s hot and spicy and little else. The Noodles are chewy but lackluster. Cheap and not much going on. A little veggie action but nothing special. 2.25 out of 5.0 stars.
Alrighty! Some Rhee Bros Assi Brand action going on here - let's have a look.... The noodles are packaged and then one packet of dry seasoning. A very interesting melange of bits and pieces in there... Notice the shininess of the noodles. Click image to enlarge. A pleasant surprise here…
So here's another Rhee Bros. Assi Brand Wellbeing noodle pack comin' atcha. I really like how these noodles look - very neat and tidy, as is the flavor packet. Awaiting boiling water and a record on top. Added two fried eggs as this was breakfast and also threw a pinch…
Well well well... More of the Assi Brand boxes. Wellbeing. We shall see! Wow! Uber packet! My curiosity is piqued! Welcome to trippy looking rice noodle land! What are all those things in the powder? What is Katsuo flavor??? Is that it? Well, Wikipedia says Katsuo flavor is... Skipjack tuna…
I tried this today. At first glance, the biggest differences are the new package design (it’s also now “portrait” instead of “landscape”) and the noodles — they are straight, very thin and long, looped in a nice little pillow inside, no plastic bag. On further inspection, the new version is a tenth of an ounce lighter, and the soup base ingredients are slightly different — they’re in a different order, and include black and red pepper powder. The noodles now include “starch” instead of “sweet potato starch,” though they may have just decided to be more concise. Steeping time is 3-4 minutes instead of 5 minutes. Anyway, I was hoping this had improved from when you last reviewed it.
Unfortunately, I have to agree with your review. The noodles were chewy and rubbery, which wasn’t terrible but not great either. The became easier to chew as they continued to soak up the broth (these were THIRSTY), but the consistency then became a little slimy and unappealing. The broth was generic spicy but OK. The veggie bits were decent. All in all, I’d say your original rating is still accurate.
