Thanks go to James K. of KoreAm for translation help as well as educating me on this one! Ramen? Nope. Ramyun? Nope. Udon? Nope. This is tteokguk! Tteok is South Korean rice cake. They’re flat and chewy! It’s often served on Lunar New Year and other special holidays. Let’s give it a try – Happy Lunar New Year!
Here are the side panels (click image to enlarge). Not sure if it contains meat or not. Looks like you add 330ml water and then either microwave or steep for a bit and then add the soup base sachet.
Detail of the lid (click image to enlarge).
An included spoon.
A vacuum pack of the rice cakes.
The soup base sachet.
A nice beefy scent with bits of vegetable.
Finished (click image to enlarge). Added sukiyaki beef, green onions and gyeranjidan (watch the video below – it’s in there). The tteok is great and is done so quickly! Usually it takes a while for it to cook, but the reason this stuff is called ‘Lightning’; is that it only takes 9 seconds! It’s just the right chewy. The broth is light and beef rich. Very tasty. 4.0 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 8809394230039.
