I can honestly say that I want to eat ramen. Every day. Well, if not ramen, ramyun, udon, mi goreng, mee and every other kind of instant noodle out there! It’s fun! Sometimes it’s hard to decide which one to review though, and so my wife was kind enough to pick one out of the bin and toss it to me this morning – and this is it. Let’s have a look! Most people here in the US think of Maruchan as making their instant packs and ‘Instant Lunch’ cups, but they make a varied line of products over in Japan with more traditional flavors from the region. But to start things off before any reviewing, today is Valentine’s Day – happy Valentine’s Day to all! My wife Kit and I spent a special day yesterday in Seattle yesterday…
We went to Seattle to the Pike Place Market! We went to a neat little shop called DeLaurenti – they have some really fancy cheeses and meats from around the world. We decided to try some of the good stuff!
There’s a little area nearby to sit and enjoy a snack before the main happenings of the night!
Here’s a little bit of $30 per pound prosciutto on a little piece of crostini. They slice this stuff paper thin, so a 1/4 pound actually goes a little way! Delicious! We also had some Toscano salami and fresh mozzarella balls.
So the main event of the evening? Kyary Pamyu Pamyu! We’ve been listening to her music for quite a while – my wife knows all the dance moves!
Was a great show – we had a great time! Happy Valentine’s Day! Now, on with the review!
Here’s the back of the package (click image to enlarge). Not sure whether there is meat or not in this one. To prepare, add the noodle block to 450ml of boiling water and cook for 3 minutes. Add contents of sachet, stir and enjoy.
The noodle block.
Soup base sachet.
Powder soup base.
Finished (click image to enlarge). Added green onion, hard boiled egg, pork and corn. The noodles are pretty good – your just above standard instant. A nice gauge and mouthfeel; comforting. The broth had a good miso flavor although not as strong as many I’ve sampled in the past. If you’re in the mood for a basic miso instant, this is a good bet. 3.75 out of 5.0 stars.UPC bar code 4901990510301.
An older Maruchan TV commercial. Maruchan has a big campaign for their products called ‘Smiles for All’ they also do.
I love trying fancy cheeses too. And Kit is really cute in that pic!
