It has only been recently that I’ve been able to get product samples from Chinese manufacturers. This is pretty special since China is where a huge part of the instant noodles in the world are consumed and produced. JML is one of these manufacturers. I was able to conduct this interview with Alvin Leung, of Li-HE Foods Limited, a Hong Kong distributor for JML.
THERAMENRATER> Thank you for doing this interview! Can you start by telling me a little bit about the history of JinMaiLang – how did you start?
JINMAILANG> JinMaiLang was form in 1994 at Hebei Province, which located in Northern China. Over 20years, JinMaiLang developed from a local manufacturer that market in only Northern China to a global brand in the world. In 2004, JinMaiLang and Nissin established a joint venture called Jinmailang Nissin Food Co Ltd. It strengthened the leading power of the company in China market and bring more advance technology from Japan in both quality and safety control.
TRR> For my readers who aren’t familiar with your product lines, can you tell a little about them?
JML> There are two series that JinMaiLang selling in Hong Kong, Spicy King and Supreme Bowl noodles. The Spicy King series has both pack size and Bowl size, and there are three flavors, Spicy Beef, Spicy Chicken and Spicy Pork. Although they all called Spicy, each of them is representing a different type of spicy in China. For the Supreme Bowl Noodles, there is a stewed egg packed with the noodles. It gives the customers not just noodles to eat, but something healthy and special to eat.
TRR> Do you produce products other than instant noodles?
JML> Besides producing instant noodles, we also produce fine dried noodles, Vermicelli, beverage and condiment
TRR> How do you noodle products differ from those by other manufacturers?
JML> Different from other manufacturer, JinMaiLang has a complete supply chain from farming of wheat, deriving of palm oil to the manufacturing of the Instant Noodle itself.
JinMaiLang instant noodles are more al dente than other brand noodles. We have a special name “彈麵Elastic Noodles” to call that type of noodles. In terms of Instant Noodles quality, JinMaiLang is very confident to be one of the best in the industry.
TRR> Can your products be purchased outside of China?
JML> JinMaiLang Noodles are now exporting to more than 40 countries in the world. (see attached)
TRR> Where do you make your noodles?
JML> We have 15 production bases in China
TRR> What was your first product?
JML> The first product was call HuaLong Pack Noodle first appeared in 1994. This is a traditional Beef flavor instant noodles targeting in local market. After the success of the product in local market, JinMaiLang expand their market to different provinces and keep improving its quality.
TRR> Are you involved in the local community/charity?
JML> In 1998, JinMaiLang provided capital for the establishment of a primary school in Shanxi Provice.

TRR> How many packs, cups and bowls of instant noodles do you produce annually?
JML> JinMaiLang produce 12billions pcs of instant noodles annually. For every 5 packs of instant noodles in the world, one is produced by JinMaiLang.
TRR> Have you ever thought about varieties like macaroni and cheese or pizza flavored instant noodles?
JML> JinMaiLang try to bring traditional Chinese flavor to contemporary instant noodles products. More interesting and unique products will be launched in the future. Now that is secret in the lab. We hope they could reveal to our customers soon.
TRR> Which is your personal favorite variety of JinMaiLang noodles and what (if anything) do you add to them?
JML> My favorite JinMaiLang noodle is Spicy Beef noodle in the Spicy King Series. It consists of Sichuan pepper ingredients, which makes it a very special and unique flavor.
TRR> A lot of people here in the United States know very little about China. Can you share some thoughts on daily life and info about where you are located?
JML> The Base of JinMaiLang is in Hebei Province, which located in Northern China. Unlike Southern China, people in here are more simple, kind and hardworking. However, they lack of independent character. Hebei has long history that can be traced back to 2000 years ago. It is near the capital of China, Beijing. Hebei is also known for its moderate climate. The four seasons are felt and enjoyed. In spring it is arid and windy, hot and rainy in summer, balmy and fine in autumn and dry and cold in winter. People around the world are welcome to visit Hebei, China.
TRR> What does the name JinMaiLang mean?
JML> JinMaiLang (今麥郎)are three Chinese words. “Jin” pronounces like powerful in Chinese. “Mai” means Wheat. And “Lang” means a young man. It is an image of a lively young man growing wheat in a farm.
TRR> Are there any new products on the way from JinMaiLang? Can you give my readers a ‘sneak peek?’
JML> Supreme Bowl Noodles-Sauces noodle with tomato flavor. This is a new member for the Supreme Bowl Noodle series.
