After quite a few years, its looking more and more like Kang Shi Fu (Master Kong) is definitely getting their products distributed into the United States. This one was sent to me by a reader named Colin (thanks again!) and is definitely different from most of the Mang Shiu Fu stuff I’ve seen. First, there’s a lot of English on the package; something very new to me. Stewed beef sounds good – let’s have a look inside.
The back of the package (click to enlarge). Looks to be meat free but check for yourself. To prepare, add package contents to 500ml boiling water and cook for 3 minutes. Stir and enjoy! NOTE: this is the method I’ve used for pretty much all of the Master Kong/Kang Shi Fu variants as the package never have instructions for a cooking method; not even this one in English.
The noodle block.
Dry soup base sachet.
Has a kind of beefy scent.
This is awesome – the ‘secret sauce’ sachet!
A cold day here at The Ramen Rater causes the liquids in sachets to thicken up. This is common – don’t worry.
The vegetables sachet.
Looks like spring onion – maybe a little TVP?
Finished (click to enlarge). Added beef for hot pot, sweet onion, Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts, coriander and crushed red pepper. The noodles have a thin and floppy character; no backbone really but they’re alright. The broth has a very nice oiliness and a good beef taste with some spices and herbs going on. The vegetables hydrated well. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 6166390966518.
