Here’s one sent by Javier over at Box From Japan. At Box From Japan, you can receive boxes of instant ramen from Japan as well as different subscription boxes like Japanese candy! Sounds interesting, doesn’t it? What’s more, in the two years I’ve been reviewing these, I’ve not ever received one that I’d reviewed before!
This one is definitely something different – it comes with butter! Wait, what? Well, keep looking below to see – butter! Butter actually goes quite well in ramen! Here’s a little about shoyu ramen from Wikipedia –
Shōyu (醤油, “soy sauce”) ramen is the oldest of the five, it has a clear brown broth, based on a chicken and vegetable (or sometimes fish or beef) stock with plenty of soy sauce added resulting in a soup that is tangy, salty, and savory yet still fairly light on the palate. Shōyu ramen usually has curly noodles rather than straight ones, but this is not always the case. It is often adorned with marinated bamboo shoots or menma, green onions, kamaboko(fish cakes), nori (seaweed), boiled eggs, bean sprouts or black pepper; occasionally the soup will also contain chili oil or Chinese spices, and some shops serve sliced beef instead of the usual chāshū.
Let’s have a look.
Acecook Super Cup Shoyu Butter Corn Ramen – Japan
Detail of the side panels (click to enlarge). Unsure but probably contains meat. To prepare, add in dry sachet and fill to line with boiling water. Cover and let steep for 3 minutes. Stir. Finally, add in butter and enjoy!

The noodle block.
A large dry sachet.
Powder and vegetables.
A little tub of butter!
Yes – you can believe it is butter!
Finished (click to enlarge). Added Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts, spring onion and shichimi togarashi. Noodles hydrated well – a hint on the spongy side but all in all pretty good. The broth was really nice – a good shoyu – but then the butter melts and the corn is good and it’s like a trip to the movie theater. I mean this butter tastes really buttery and goes perfect with the corn. I didn’t know if I’d like this one to be honest, but I did. 4.25 out of 5.0 stars. JAN bar code 4901071231286.
