Sapporo Ichiban offers four standard pillow pack style noodles, four special varieties, and four cup varieties. It makes it easy to do a different one every day during this Meet The Manufacturer series. I have, however, reviewed them all before, but it was a very long, long time ago. I usually don’t like to do re-reviews, but I think in this case I’m very happy to make an exception. I’ve been wanting to do a Meet The Manufacturer with Sanyo Foods America for years and getting the chance to has been a lot of fun!
Today, we’ve got one of the cups – this one has a shrimp flavor to it. Let’s look inside and see what it’s all about.
Sapporo Ichiban Shrimp Flavor Oriental Noodle Soup – United States
Detail of the outer cardboard piece (click to enlarge). Contains chicken and shrimp. To prepare, add in sachet contents and fill to line with boiling water. Cover for 3 minutes. Finally, stir and enjoy!
The foam cup.
Detail of the lid (click to enlarge).
The noodle block.
Loose bit from inside the cup including some nice looking shrimp.
The soup base sachet.
A flecked powder.
Finished (click to enlarge). Added organic Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts, spring onion, sesame seeds and shichimi togarashi. The noodle came out quite good – a good backbone and sturdy chew. The broth was very nice – it had a sweet taste of shrimp I found very impressive and tasty. The included garnish hydrated well – especially the shrimp which were of a good size. 3.75 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 076186700041.

A video about farmed shrimp. Not to say this is how Sapporo Ichiban gets theirs, but thought it might be neat to watch while eating a shrimp noodle cup.
