Here’s one sent to me by Ippin, a purveyor of lots of different Japanese products. This is definitely a fancy variety from a set of Kanto region varieties based on popular ramen shops. Not a lot of boxes come across my desk so this should be interesting! Here’s what the Ippin website had to say about this variety:
【Noodle】 Extra thick and straight noodles 【soup】 Pork bone soy sauce soup ・With the spirit of Iekei (house style) ramen, this shop’s ramen is made by traditional secret techniques and the passion of the Iekei. – Contents: ・Noodles: 130g x2 ・Soup & Seasoning Package: 55g x2 – Features: Pork bone (Tonkotsu) soy sauce based soup, extra thick noodles, and the samurai spirit represent the Yokohama ieke ramen.
Fancy stuff, eh? Let’s open up the box and have a look!

One of the two noodle pouches.
A liquid base sachet.
Looks interesting.
Finished (click to enlarge). Added chashu pork, hard boiled egg, spring onion, nanami togarashi and sesame seeds. The noodles were thick, but not so chewy you were jawing for a long time. I went with 3 1/2 minutes on medium heat for these and they were just right. The broth is a very tasty one – a beautiful shoyu tonkotsu which was very tasty and has a balance of richness to to creaminess – not too salty, just right. Thoroughly impressed. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.
