Sara udon is an interesting thing; you make a sauce with veg and protein in it and put it over uncooked, thin, crisp noodles. The sauce softens the noodles, so you get this half crunchy, half soft noodle texture going on – it’s really great! Check it out!
Higashimaru Seafood Sara Udon – Japan
Detail of the packaging (click to enlarge). Contains seafood. To prepare, add one sachet to 150ml water and stir – set aside. Stir fry some seafood and vegetables. When done, add in the sauce and cook it with that. On a plate or in a bowl, place a block of the noodles. Add the sauce on top. Finally, enjoy!
Two servings of noodles.
Two seasoning base sachets.
Finished (click to enlarge). Added egg, Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts, spring onion, narutomaki, carved squid, sesame seed, pepper flake, and shrimp. It’s a really neat and unique way of doing things. The noodles towards the middle on the bottom suck up the sauce rather quickly and become sauce while it takes the others a while to engorge themselves. The sauce is semi-thick and works really well. It has a pleasant seafood flavor. This is a hard one to rate since it really requires additions. But I would venture with nothing added, it’d be a 3.75 out of 5.0 stars – with additions a clear 5.0 out of 5.0 stars. JAN bar code 4976740901647.
