What did you do in 2013? Well, it turns off I pissed off an entire population in Southeast Asia. Taiwan wasn’t on my top ten list that year (honestly, I’d not tried anything I was really thrilled about at that point from there) and to make things a little more insulting, they did make the Bottom Ten list. Well, I started to get some traffic on my site. Tons of comments too – apparently, Taiwanese media had picked up on this and people were pretty ticked off.
I started what I dubbed ‘noodle diplomacy’ and came out with a statement on the matter. Send me your best – let me try what you guys think is so wonderful that I haven’t.
A-Sha Dry Noodle contacted me first. They sent a ton of varieties and styles I’d never heard of nor tried before. That opened a floodgates over the years of varieties from Taiwa; enough that there’s been an annual top ten Taiwanese list for a few years now.
I think I’ve reviewed this many years ago – back in 2013 actually. I’m sure if I did it’s changed a little, so I’d better give it a try.
A-Sha Hakka Noodle – Chili Sauce – Taiwan
Detail of the side panels (click to enlarge). Looks to be meat free but check for yourself. To prepare, boil noodles for 4 minutes and drain. Add in sachet contents. Finally, stir and enjoy!
Here’s A-Sha’s Hakka style noodles. They’re thick and wide.
A wet sachet of sauce.
Finished (click to enlarge). Added marinated egg, chashu, scallion, sesame seed, chili flake, and Lao Gan Ma Spicy Chili Crisp. Noodles are broad and flat with a light chew to them. Chili flavor is good – not overly spicy and has a nice flavor to it. 4.5 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 4715635851496.
