I went to Uwajimaya in Bellevue today and looked at all the noodles they had and honestly, this was the only one that piqued my curiosity. I’ve reviewed Dream Kitchen stuff before, but it certainly looked like private label KOKA product – but this one doesn’t seem to be that way. It says it’s a product of the USA, so I’m a little perplexed as to who is actually making these. But either way, it’s curry udon and of that I’m not perplexed and I know I’m partial to curry, so let’s see how it is.
Dream Kitchen Curry Udon – United States
Detail of the lid (click to enlarge). Contains fish. To prepare (and this seems a little ridiculous), Add in the soup sachet and 300ml boiling water and stir. Add in the vegetable sachet and the noodles and loosen. Microwave for one minute. Finally, stir and enjoy!
The udon pouch.
The soup base sachet.
The vegetables sachet.
Finished (click to enlarge). Added baked chicken, flower fu, sesame seed, spring onion, tempura, and Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts. The udon came out fine – about as expected. The broth was a slightly spicy Japanese curry with a little thickness. The thing I have a problem with is the cooking method is really odd; boil water and then microwave? Then it says it only takes one minute to cook – but hey, that time you spent boiling water never happened, right? Then there’s the matter of the soup base that just clumps on contact which was tough to deal with but in the end went okay. That being said, I review based on taste and quality. 3.75 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 854195002239.
