This. This created quite a stir (no pun intended) in the Instant Noodles – The Ramen Rater Facebook group. The spicy crowd was fascinated, and the ramen crowd espoused disdain. Cries of ‘that’s not ramen’ rose up in protest. Obviously not; it is pasta – rotini to be exact.
So why review this? Well, it’s kind of a weird cultural thing. I mean, Cheetos are just kind of weird things to begin with. I’ve seen then in ramen many a time and did a little piece about it was kind of akin to tempura in ramen really when it comes down to it.
I’ll say this – even if it is the best thing I’ve ever tried in my life, this won’t be going on any top ten list that I do. These are not even what I would consider noodles. But they’re interesting. Pray I don’t offend. Let’s give it a try.
Cheetos Mac’N Cheese Cheesy Jalapeno – United States
Detail of the box (click to enlarge). Looks to be meat free but check for yourself. To prepare, boil pasta in 6 cups of water for 7 minutes. Drain. Add in seasoning mix, 1/4 cup of milk and 2 tbsp butter. Finally, stir and enjoy!
Rotini pasta.
The cheese sauce component (dry).
Finished (click to enlarge). Added minced London Broil medium rare luncheon meat, spring onion, and red pepper flake. The rotini came out just fine – very thin walled though and a little thicker would be nicer. The flavor is a salty cheese with a kind of jalapeno (more chem-apeno honestly). It’s overboard. But that is exactly what I expected and it’s the ticket for this one. It tastes like pasta with cheddar jalapeno Cheetos dust all over it. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 015300014992.
