They did a big reset at the local Safeway. They redid their produce section which was kinda nice. The also really updated their Asian foods section. Lots of instant noodles there! Then, there’s this. These are $4.99 each. The only reason I got one is because we love this brand’s Korean BBQ sauce. I’m guessing there’s a good chance this will be pretty good. Let’s chek it out and see if it warrants this price tag.
Lee Kum Kee Hong Kong Style Chow Mein – United States
Detail of the side panels (click to enlarge). Contains crustaceans. To prepare, Add everything to bowl and microwave 2~3 minutes. Finally, stir and enjoy!

A fresh noodle pouch.
The sauce pouch – a rather large one.
Sesame seeds.
Spring onion.
Finished (click to enlarge). Added spring onion, sautéed beef, sesame seed, chili flake, and Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts. The noodles come out just fine – nice gauge fresh shelf stable noodle. The flavor though is sadly inadequate. It’s very acidic and acrid. This was not what I expected in this one, especially from a brand that makes such wonderful sauces and marinades. This is like Lean Cuisine or other US products take on teriyaki; it tastes nothing like what is served here. I could see if it were going with a black vinegar hit to it, but that’s even a stretch for the imagination with this one. Really disappointing – especially with the $5 price tag. 0.5 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 078895158557.
