Here’s one that came in a Zenpop.jp box – use coupon code THERAMENRATER for a groovy discount!
This one uses buckwheat noodle and a bonito and kelp based broth. Needless to say, my expectations are low as I’m not a fan of this particular combo. However I’ve been pleasantly surprised in the past with such pairings and hopefully this will be one of those times. Let’s check it out.
Maruchan Niku Soba – Japan
Detail of the side panels (click to enlarge). Contains fish and pork. To prepare, fill to line with boiling water and cover for 3 minutes. Add in sachet contents. Finally, stir and enjoy!
Detail of the lid (click to enlarge).
A block of buckwheat soba.
Loose bits and seasoning from the cup.
A liquid base sachet.
Finished (click to enlarge). Added kamaboko, kizami nori, spring onion, sesame seed, and tempura. The buckwheat soba has that little texture thing that I don’t find all that enjoyable; kind of gummy on the chew. The broth was a little better than expected – full bodied and moved between the kelp and bonito and a nice pork taste. Still, not my favorite – but could be worse. 3.25 out of 5.0 stars.
