To be honest, this makes me very happy. I’ve really found the Ramen Express varieties to be quite good, and now they’re easily found at Walmart. I’m not extremely keen on the cup versions (although I haven’t had the new shrimp variety so maybe they’ve changed; I will soon), but the packs have a great noodle and very nice flavors. I’m unsure if this is different than the origininal hotter and spicier variety; this one tacks ‘chili’ on the end and has different packaging. Saw it at Walmart a couple of days ago.

Speaking of Walmart, we went to the Super Walmart in Marysville, Washington. That was insanity, I have to say. A ton of stuff wasn’t in there which was kind of a bummer; we drove extra far to get some lower priced goods, however they were just… missing. Once our shopping adventure was done, we were greeted by a sea of disgruntled shoppers – they only had two checkouts open. Apparently, all the chatter about less people working isn’t hogwash. We ended up using the self-checkout which was pretty quick (although there were a bunch of people complaining about how there wasn’t any room at the self checkout). Angry mob of people wanting to give our corporate overlords their money. It’s a job seekers market if you want to work in retail it seems. Actually, I like Walmart – it’s a fascinating place! Anyways, let’s check out this diamond in the rough!

Detail of the packaging (click to enlarge). Mentions that it is Vegetarian freindly but check for yourself. To prepare, boil noodle block in 400ml water (2 cups) for 3 minutes. Add in sachet contents. Finally, stir and enjoy!

The noodle block.

A dry sachet of soup base.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added narutomaki, homemade chashu, soft boiled marinated egg, sesame seed, spring onion, mung bean sprouts, n and shichimi. Noodles are definitely the best made domestically here in the United States as far as pillow pack economy range varieties go.Nice chew to them – they’re a little extra oomphy which I thoroughly appreciate. The broth is excellent as well with a salty chili flavor – and it tastes like something you would pull out of a spice cabinet. Just works so well. 5.0 out oc 5.0 stars.  UPC bar code 810037810387.
