Definitely excited about this one – today I got home from a ten mile walk and found a big box at my doorstep. I haven’t even edited the unboxing video yet – and here we are. This as far as I can tell, is their Pepper Sesame Lai Noodle – it also sounds like it’s the favorite of an influential lady in Taiwan. Let’s check it out!
Hi-Lai Foods Lai Noodle Vegan Sesame Paste Flavor – Taiwan
Detail of the packaging (click to enlarge). Looks to be Vegetarian friendly but check for yourself. To prepare, boil noodle 5~6 minutes. Drain. Add in contents of sachets. Finally, combine and enjoy!
The noodle block.
A soy sauce sachet?
Definitely the sesame component.
Sichuan peppercorn infused oil most likely.
Finished (click to enlarge). Added chashu, spring onion, sesame seed, and Lao Gan Ma spicy chili crisp. Noodles are great – very thin gauge for a dry noodle. The flavor was interesting and unique; sesame paste, Sichuan peppercorn oil, and then this almost black vinegar component, adding an acidity which fit this dish very well and paired so micely with the sesame. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars.
