This is the third variety of the Hai Chi Jian varieties I got. They’ve been pretty fascinating so far and this one sounds pretty good -let’s give it a go! But wait – who is the guy on the cup (image is below)? I have found out. I found it on a website called GoodyFeed.com – here’s what they had to say –
The young ones wouldn’t know about him, cause he’s pretty old school, known for his comedic roles in movies like King of Comedy and The Tricky Master.
He is Bobby Yip, more well known by his actor name 八兩金 (Ba Liang Jin, translates to eight taels of gold). But he’s not well known in English speaking communities: he doesn’t even have a Wikipedia page.
Now, he’s also a spokesperson for the HaiChiJia brand of Suan La Fen.
So, now you know as well! Been wondering. Well, let’s check this out.
Hai Chi Jia Golden Soup Sour Spicy Vermicelli – China
Detail of the side panels (click to enlarge). Looks to be meat free but check for yourself. To prepare, add in all sachets and fill to line with boiling water. Cover 5 minutes. Finally, stir and enjoy!
Detail of the lid (click to enlarge).
The noodle block.
A dry base sachet.
A sachet of liquid – looks like a spicy element.
Another liquid sachet – looks like sesame paste but unsure.
A vegetables sachet.
Still unsure what these are.
A sachet of peanuts.
Finished (click to enlarge). Added scallion, chili oil, and sesame seed. The vermicelli come out right right, as it has in the other varieties I’ve tried from this brand. The broth is a nice mix of sesame paste and just enough Sichuan pepper. Included vegetables were on point. Really quite savory and flavorful and the peanuts provide a nice little extra. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 6972802402402.
