Big thanks to Pher Engi for sending this over! So, this variety I figured to be just a chicken mi goreng, but it isn’t. Ayam Pop is a dish from Sumatra – and while the image on the package seems to be a plain piece of chicken, looks can be deceiving! On Taste Atlas, I found this –
Ayam pop is a traditional Indonesian dish originating from Padang. It’s made with a combination of chicken, butter, garlic, coconut milk, and seasonings. The garlic is fried in butter, and the coconut milk, sugar, water, salt, and pepper are then added to the pot.
The chicken pieces are simmered in the liquid until the meat becomes tender. They’re then fried in oil, but not until golden brown – the meat should be light-colored and slightly white. Once done, ayam pop is often served with a combination of kecap manis, fried shallots, and chili peppers.
I have butter and garlic, but alas, no coconut milk. I did just get a cucumber though. Anyways, this sounds quite good and something I’d like to try in Indonesia. Let’s try this regional variety, part of the Kuliner Indonesia range.
Indomie Mi Goreng Rasa Ayam Pop – Indonesia
Detail of the packaging (click to enlarge). Looks to be meat free, but check for yourself. To prepare, boil noodle for 3 minutes. Drain. add in sachet contents. Finally, stir and enjoy!
Noodle got a little trouble in shipping but it’ll work fine.
A sachet of dry base.
A sachet of liquid base.
Finished (click to enlarge). Added baked chicken, cucumber, tomato, sesame seed, coriander, and crushed red pepper. Noodle seemed a tad heavier gauge than the usual Indomie mi goreng fare. The flavor was really quite good – a spicy and rich cumin and coconut kind of thing I believe. Very savory and tasty. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 089686043648.
