Well, I figured late is better than never. I compiled this list around September of last year and never got around to editing it up. Well, the kids are on spring break so I figured a great time to hunker down and get some work done. This list is a compilation of my favorite varieties of Indonesian instant noodles I’ve tried up to review 4,650. A lot of reviews have come out since I wrote this list, so you can be sure some of those will appear on the next list. I should note I’ve also compiled a list of all of the Indomie varieties I’ve tried here. You can see everything I’ve tried from Indonesia here. Also, I’m making a big change to Top Tens. #10: FitMee Konjac Chicken Soto
Okay, this is the real deal, folks. The konjac came out quite well – still somewhat extra springy, but it is just overwhelmed in such a great way by the broth. The broth has such a beautiful balance of lime, hints of spiciness and coconut and it just blew my mind so much I even forgot to add the shallot flake in there – which I tried separately and found to be pretty good. But I’ll try it again tomorrow because ITS ONLY 60 CALORIES! Original review
#9: Salam Mie Mi Goreng Ala Jawa Dengan Sambal Cabe Asli
The noodles are just as I expected – good gauge and chew. The flavor is really quite nice – this is the mi goreng flavor I love but with a very nice added kick thanks to the included sambal. Sweet, salty and spicy combined in a perfect trifecta. Original review
#8: Lemonilo Mie Instan Alami Rasa Mie Goreng
The noodles here are absolutely brilliant. They have a very nice chew and aren’t super chewy – they’re just right. The gauge is nice and provides a very good mouthfeel. The flavoring is spot on – sweet, salty, spicy. I’m really enthralled with this variety – unique and just exceptional. Original review
#7: Best Wok Corn Bihun Hot & Spicy Fried Bihun
I must admit I’m surprised at how good this one is. The noodle is made entirely of corn! It has a texture that reminds me of a cross between bean thread and rice vermicelli. It’s really quite a unique mouthfeel – unique in a good way. The flavor is on point as well, hitting just the right notes you’d expect in a mi goreng, leaning a little extra on the sweet side. #6: ABC Mi Instant Goreng
The noodles are light which lends itself nicely here. Flavors intermingle well – spicy, sweet and savory. This is a very good mi goreng and highly enjoyed by this reviewer. Original review
#5: Indomie Mi Gorenbg Original 50th Anniversary
A legend; a classic. If you’ve never tried Indomie before, do it. It’s not going to break your bank account. It’s mi goreng – sweet, spicy, savory. Best served with a fried egg. Original review
#4: Indomie Hype Abis Mi Goreng Rasa Ayam Geprek
Kind of a mi goreng meet fried chicken kind of thing. Dry noodles with a nice gauge. Flavor is a spicy and tangy sambal, and garnish is like crunchy fried chicken. Really nice stuff. Original review
#3: Best Wok Mi Goreng Original
This one has an aspect I really enjoy: it’s not as dry. It’s got a nice oiliness which works very well – along with a little extra lean towards the sweet. Really great stuff if you can find it. Original review
#2: Indomie Real Meat Mi Instan Goreng Rendang
This stuff is great – and a big thank you to a friend who sent it who is no longer with us. . Take their Mi Goreng Rendang and include a sachet of real rendang in a retort pouch. Yep – real beef. This comes after recently hearing that Indomie Rendang is hard to find here in the United States, something I was surprised to hear since it’s such a popular product and such a good one. #1: Indomie Mi Keriting Rasa Ayam Panggang
Now here we go. This was available in the United States only a very short time after I started reviewing. I think it made the 2011 top ten. This one has a great noodle, vegetable that goes so well, and a sipping soup on the side. It’s amazing – I wish it would come back. Original review
Announcements
A special note about Top Ten lists going forward
After long consideration and thought over the years, I’ve made a decision about the Top Ten lists. Are they going away? No, absolutely not. Top Ten lists going forward are going to have only one entry per company. I’ve had many Top Ten lists (this one is a good example) that have multiple wins by the same company. This list today is the end of that. You’d think ten spots would be enough to cover a lot of stuff, but I find it more and more restrictive, hence this new policy. Don’t worry – other varieties by the company will most likely be mentioned in the video. I think this change does two things. First, it provides more visibility for market diversity. Two, it provides more options for people to find products. This will start with the next Global Top Ten list which should be debuting on Monday, April 22nd, 2024. I should note that this will not apply to the Spiciest and Bottom Ten lists, as those are a bit different. Global, Cups, Bowls, and Trays as well as country-specific lists will be affected going forward. There are some instances this may not work. The USA list might be a little difficult as I don’t know that there are ten different companies to select from. This is going to be a big change, so we shall see how it goes. Global, cups and bowls definitely will adhere to this new policy.

Definitive Guides
This year, I’ve decided to do a special series called Definitive Guides. Recipes, trivia, history, and more on some of the most loved and fascinating varieties of instant noodles around the world! So far, I’ve got one on Nongshim’s Shin Ramyun, and Indomie’s Mi Goreng and Nissin Foods’ Cup Noodles Pumpkin Spice! Very recently, I released a Definitive Guide To Maruchan Ramen Noodle Soup. Future guides will include MAMA Tom Yum, and more. My plan is do feature one or two products from each country.
