Here’s one that came in a Zenpop.jp box – use coupon code THERAMENRATER for a groovy discount!
Here’s what they had to say about it – ‘Charumera (チャルメラ) is a classic series from Myojo, but this one is a flavor we’ve been wanting to add to your box for a while. It’s part of a range of local flavors, and for this original cup, they picked Kumamoto (熊本), a charming city in Kyushu famous for their mascot Kumamon, as their inspiration for this recipe. Tonkotsu is originally from Kyushu, with several variations popular on the island. This version is a relatively like take on the usually heavy Tonkotsu dish, and has a dash of “ma oil” (マー油), prepared with charred garlic and leaving you with lots of aromas.’
This one will not have an episode of Instant Noodle Recipe Time attached to it. Why? Well, it was prepared and used in video for an interview I did for a Japanese TV station – was fun and hopefully I’ll have a link to the video! Anyways, let’s check it out!

The noodle block.
A powder soup base sachet.
A small sachet of ma-yu – black garlic oil.
Loose bits from the bowl.
Finished (click to enlarge). Added egg, chashu, narutomaki, spring onion, and sesame seed. Noodle was thin – light chew but mouthfeel was nice. The broth was a savory tonkotsu – it had a very inviting scent as well. Tasty and wonderful – and the ma-yu oil was a great touch. Finally, the included veg and meaty bits were just perfectly hydrated. This one was excellent. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars. JAN bar code 4902881452762.
