#5000
#5000. It took me a long time to decide what to review for #5000, and you might be thinking ‘why this one?’ I found it at a Dollar Tree store, and it had all the hallmarks of something I like to review. First, never have I seen this brand before. That’s a neat thing – I mean after 5000 you’d think I’d seen everything but most certainly not. Second, it’s basic. Really hard to screw up chicken flavor, although I have indeed seen it done before. Third, I got it at a place that was very nearby, in walking distance. That’s pretty cool. The main chunk of my early reviews were fouind when I walked to a 99 Ranch Market. So, it’s kind of a mirror of what got me back to reviewing after my lapse in the 2000s.
This one being special, I decided I should do a couple special videos alongside this one. First, I have made an updated How I Review video – the fourth one. Since I made this, I looked at the previous vids I did and a lot has changed. I also made a kind of documentary about the timeline of my stint as The Ramen Rater. Both of those are below, and as always is my cooking video episode of Instant Noodle Recipe Time.
You might be wondering ‘are you done now that you’ve reached #5000? Nope – In fact, it took so long for me to actually pick a 5000th review that I just skipped it and kept going. I’ve done over a hundred more in that time, so fear not of an end to them.

I decided to make the documentary at the last minute and spent many hours in the last week poring over all the archived images, video and jogging my memory.

#5000: McTrader Ramen Noodles Chicken – United States
Detail of the packaging (click to enlarge). Looks to be meat free but check for yourself. To prepare, add noodle block to 2 cups of boiling water and cook 3 minutes. Add in sachet contents. Finally, stir and enjoy!

A sachet of soup base powder seasoning.
Finished (click to enlarge). Added chicken, egg, scallion, narutomaki, sesame seed, and Lee Kum Kee Chili Chiu Chili Crisp. Noodle is very soft and light. The broth has a kind of stabdard chicken plus a little extra hint of oiliness; like what they used to call a ‘homestyle’ flavor profile. Honestly, it’s not bad and was a fun 5000th review. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 400350119997.

This year, I’ve decided to do a special series called Definitive Guides. Recipes, trivia, history, and more on some of the most loved and fascinating varieties of instant noodles around the world! So far, I’ve got one on Nongshim’s Shin Ramyun, and Indomie’s Mi Goreng and Nissin Foods’ Cup Noodles Pumpkin Spice! Very recently, I released a Definitive Guide To Maruchan Ramen Noodle Soup. Future guides will include MAMA Tom Yum, and more. My plan is do feature one or two products from each country.
