#5001: GS25 Washbasin Naengmyeon Cold Noodle - South Korea

This is massive. I usually do an enormous variety for my ‘thousands’ reviews – at least that’s what I did for 3000 & 4000. Well, here’s a huge 5001/ 4000+ calories of naengmyeon. It’s a cold noodle and comes in it’s own huge metal bowl. Dang. Found it at HMart and it was around $25. It was pricey, but I just couldn’t pass it up. It was the only one they had and I figured it was a set of bowls and then realized this was a real thing. Well, let’s cook it up.

A distributor / import sticker (click to enlarge).

Detail of the outer packaging (click to enlarge). Looks to be meat free but check for yourself. Top prepare, add noodle and dehydrated vegetables to 3 liters boiling water. It says to return to boil and cook for 1 1/2 minutes. I think the translation is off as doing this would prove impossible; it would still be a huge brick. It took about ten minutes or so for it to almost completely come apart and hydrate with regular stirring. In a seperate pot, add 1.6 liters cold water and large liquid sachet. Stir. Drain noodle and rinse with cold water (good luck). Finally, add drained noodle to large washbasin bowl, add broth. Finally, add in sauce and oil sachets and enjoy!

The noodles – this is gigantic and they’re buckwheat.

By the way here’s the huge bowl – it’s big but lightweight when everything’s out of it.

A huge sachet of soup base.

This bag has holes and can be used to rinse the noodles – although there’s no much noodle and it’s been boiling so good luck with that.

A large sachet of dehydrated vegetables.

A sweet spicy sauce – similar to what you’d find in bibimmyeon.

Mustard oil I reckon.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added 2 eggs, cucumber, pear, sesame seed, scallions, and ice. While the preparation was really difficult due to the size, it was very good. Noodle was chewy and worked nicely in ice cold water. The broth was rather sweet and lightly spicy as well. Oil was nice, sauce added such a sweet and spicy bump, and the broth just worked. So much vegetable in there as well. Really tasty. 4.75 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 8809682780437.

A big bowl for your cold noodles!
