Another one sent by James of Lakeside, CA – thanks again! Nope – no noodles here, but definitely something you’ll find on shelves next to instant ramyun bowls, that’s for sure. tteokbokki are tubes of rice cake which are soft and chewy – and in this one they’re in a spicy, sweet sauce. Let’s check it out and give it a try!
Surasang ’88 Seoul Topokki Rice Cake With Hot Sauce – South Korea
Detail of the side panels (click to enlarge). Looks to be meat free but check for yourself. To prepare, add everything to the bowl as well as 150ml room temperature water. Stir. Cover loosely with lid and microwave 2.5 minutes at 1000W. Finally, stir and enjoy!
Detail of the lid (click to enlarge).
A large pouch of tteokbokki – note the desiccant sachet – not to eat.
A sauce powder sachet.
A sachet of vegetables.
Finished (click to enlarge). Added scallion, crushed red pepper, and sesame seed. Tteokbokki could have been a little softer to be honest in the time/wattage called for. The sauce was much too brothy – maybe calling for a little less water would work better to thicken things up. No complaints about the included garnish. It’s still tteokbokki in the end, but a couple tweaks would make it much, much better. 2.75 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 087703312692.
