#5148: Maruchan ZUBAAAN! Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen – Japan

Here’s a variety that I found in one of MiauMall’s Nakama Noodles subscription boxes! These boxes are discontinued, however you can find their stuff at MiauMall – here is what they said about this one – “What’s that? Something is appearing from the fog! It’s… a tasty bowl of tonkotsu ramen! With tasty, thin noodles and a flavorful yet mild tonkotsu broth from Hakata, this tasty bowl is otherworldly! You can even use it to make Hakata’s unique variation, yaki-ramen!”

I do love tonkotsu – and lots of exclamatory caps-lock! Let us begin…

Maruchan ZUBAAAN! Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen – Japan

#5148: Maruchan ZUBAAAN! Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen - Japan

Detail of the packaging (click to enlarge). Contains chicken and pork. To prepare, add noodle to 500ml boiling water and cook 1 minute. Add in sachet contents. Finally, stir and enjoy!

An instant noodle block.

A sachet of soup base powder seasoning.

A sachet of liquid soup base.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added S&B Garlic Crisp, sesame seed, narutomaki, scallion, egg, and chashu. Noodle is thin and floury – definitely Hakata style. The broth though; it’s sweet. Strangely sweet! I mean, tonkotsu is a word doing a lot of heavy lifting here; almost seemed like marshmallows were part of the flavor profile. That being said, it was oily, hearty, and pretty good. 3.75 out of 5.0 stars.  JAN bar code 4901990514590.
