Well folks, we’re in the home stretch to the 2,000th review. To be honest, I never had a clue I would be reviewing instant noodles every day – never in a million years. Anyways, still quite a few to go so let’s check this one out. Kapitan Kari literally means ‘Captain Curry’ – kind of like the king of curry. Let’s rip this one open and give it a try!
Another one from James B. over in The Netherlands – thanks! I thought this one looked really interesting; it’s made in Singapore specifically for Koh Thai brand in The Netherlands. Let’s crack this one open!
I’ve had what I believe to be the pack variety of this before. Was pretty good! Let’s see how this bowl version fares.

There are lots of different kinds of curry in the work – British, Indian, Malaysian, Korean, Japanese – I’m sure there are more as well. Well, Japanese curry is what we have here. It tends to be on the sweeter, mild side, usually leaving the spicy elements behind. Let’s give this one a peek.

Got an email a couple months ago from Casey P. in Hong Kong. He’s been following the blog for years and wanted to send some things for me to review and this is one of them – thanks again! Today, we have Nissin Cup Noodle Sio. Sio is also known as Shio, a classic ramen variety. Let’s have a look and see what’s going on under the lid.
I’ve been wondering when I would find this one for a long time and finally, I have. It was at the local HMart in Lynnwood, Washington on 184th street – if you live in this area, you should definitely check this place out! Anyways, cheese powder and spicy South Korean ramyun – I mean how can you go wrong here? Not only that, you’ve got the added bonus of a little character with a block of cheese on it’s head vomiting cheesy goodness into the bowl with a smile on his/her face. Sounds tasty! Let’s check it out!
It’s pretty rare for me to hit a regular old supermarket here in the USA and find something I’ve not reviewed before, but it happens from time to time. I found this one at a WinCo Foods in Edmonds, Washington. It used to be a Top Foods a while ago but I think they’ve all but gone out of business and WinCo moved in. WinCo is kind of weird – imagine a big grocery store but kind of like Costco but not Costco and kind of cold and you have to bag your own groceries. Oh – and there are tons of signs everywhere in this really basic font. It almost seems like a weird government experiment – but I digress! This is a new one from Nissin – looks tasty for this cold weather. Let’s check it out!
Okay so you might be wondering – beef tongue shio mayo ramen – that couldn’t possibly mean… Yes. Where did I get it though?
Okay so for this one – images are smaller than they appear! This is a tiny 15 gram package of snack noodles. It was one that I saw on a table of products that were displayed during a big meeting in Thailand for MAMA noodles and their global factories and these were from Myanmar. I’ll tell you right now that as soon as someone invents a transported like they had in Star Trek, I’m buying one that just takes me to grocery stores and markets in foreign countries. It’s funny; when thinking about going to a foreign country, my first thought is what kind of grocery stores they have there and the exotic instant noodle varieties within. Yep – I’m a basket case. I found out about Box From Japan on Reddit last year and sent the guy who runs the service an email. Javier sent me a sample box and I reviewed the included varieties and they were really great! He was nice enough to send me yet another one – every box has had some seriously great selections unavailable in the United States inside! Let’s take a look!
Myojo sent this one along with their Meet The Manufacturer package – Myojo is part of Nissin Singapore and while this one doesn’t really belong in a Myojo Meet The Manufacturer, I figured it would be nice to try just after it.
Today, we come to the end of this Meet The Manufacturer with Myojo of Singapore. Lots of great new flavors to try in this one! Todaym we end things off with Mee Poh Dry. I did some scrouing of the Internet and found that Mee Poh often is served with fish ball, so I’m pleased at that since I love using fish ball – and the ones I have in my freezer are indeed from Singapore. Let’s dig in!

I did a bit of research on Wikipedia about char mee. It was a little vague but I am hoping what I gleaned was right. So, this is like Hokkien mee without broth. Let’s see what this is all about.
I tried the spicy mushroom pack version a few days ago and really liked it – I usually am not a fan of mushrooms, but the flavor in that one was really quite enjoyable. Today it’s the bowl version – how will it fare? Let’s have a look!

This is only the second mee goreng I’ve tried from Singapore. I would’ve thought that more varieties would have crossed my desk by now! But maybe there aren’t lots of them? Unsure. But one thing I know is that mee goreng usually is quite a nice treat to enjoy – no broth, spicy, a little sweet… Let’s crack this pack open and see what makes it tick!
Lobster instant noodle have always kind of solidified my thoughts on the instant noodle’s gourmetness. Here in the United States, lobster is a very expensive item on the menu, and seeing it in an instant noodle truly speaks to the versatility of instant nooldes to convey exotic and tasty flavors of many foods. Let’s see how this special variety from Myojo stacks up!
It’s been a long time since I’ve had any chicken abalone flavored instant noodles – looks like 400-450 reviews ago. I’ll be honest – I’ve never had real abalone before, so I can’t say as to an instant’s authenticity to abalone flavor, although I can definitely say whether I like it or not. Let’s crack this pack open and have a look inside.
It’s only logical that since Singapore is only a stone’s throw from Thailand that Thai flavors would be popular there. Tom yam soup is a tasty melange of lemongrass, spiciness and shrimp all coalescing into a harmonious symphony of wonder and amazement. I’m curious how this tom yam from Singapore differs from varieties from Malaysia just to the north and Thailand north of there. Let’s take a look!
This is what looks to be Myojo’s pack version of their chicken flavor bowl. I’m having a little trouble withe the tern ‘tanmen.’ I see it is a Japanese ramen style, but I’m thinking in this usage, it’s just meaning noodle soup. Let’s have a look.

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of the spicy stuff. Also it should be known though that I’m not usually a big fan of mushrooms. I will try anything and everything I can get my hands on though – and in the last year or so, I’ve been finding mushrooms a bit more to my liking. My fingers are crossed for this one! Two days ago, I got a big box full of really nice gifts and product samples from Prima Taste of Singapore. Well, yet another box showed up today. I had an idea of the product samples that might be in the first, but not sure on this one – let’s open it!
On a recent trip to the Uwajimaya in Bellevue, WA I spotted this one. This is made in the United States and sounds really good. Tonkotsu is characterized by a milky white broth – usually pork, but this one is chicken! It sounds really good and seeing this is my wife’s Friday, I thought I’d surprise her by making her a bowl. Let’s check it out!
Well, this is embarrassing… From time to time I’ve accidentally pasted the watermark twice and one ends up in the middle of the image. Sorry about that! About a month or so ago my wife and I were at the Edmonds 99 Ranch Market and she noticed a whole bunch of varieties and asked if I’d tried them. I’m legally blind, which basically means my eyesight is there, but so poor that it’s hard for me to cross the street, would be a menace behind the wheel, and miss a lot of instant noodles that my wife catches at the store! Let’s check out this Tom Yam flavored mi goreng!
A big box came today! I was expecting one from Prima Taste of Singapore – they have a couple new varieties I’ve been curious to try – let’s see what’s inside!
The last one from the trip we took to Canada for my birthday. This is a Taiwanese variety I found up there. I see a picture of a chicken on the package, but that’s as far as it goes as the serving suggestion doesn’t look very ‘chickenny.’ Let’s see how it goes!
Here’s yet another one I got from the 7-Eleven next to our hotel from last May’s Bangkok trip. Like some others, this one got banged up pretty good, but still made it through in good enough condition to review. What’s a trip about this one is that it’s showcasing Manchester United. I’ve seen a few products with Manchester United footballers on them. Let’s check it out!

Here’s a neat one. During my trip to Thai President Foods’ Agent Meeting in Bangkok last month, I went to a seminar for a large group of European distributors. There were a couple guys who were there that I met from the Thai President Foods Hungary factory, and I was able to obtain samples of many of the products that are manufactured there, this being one of them. I noticed that on the label, an Austrian company is distributing this one. Let’s have a look!

Today it’s a tonkotsu variant, Kumamoto style! It’s known for a blending of two different kind of garlic which are fried in something called mayo oil which bring out a black color – sounds interesting! Let’s check it out!
The next to last variety I found while in Thailand – there was a Seven-Eleven next to our hotel which we visited countless times; so different from the ones we have here! Slurpee machines in the back as always, but you make a 180 degree turn and boom – a huge assortment of instant noodles. It was amazing and burned into my mind! Some companies do special partnerships with Seven-Eleven all over Southeast Asia and have special varieties only available there – this is one of them. Let’s check it out!
