2011_11_24_rrv_001

Before I start the re-review, I just want to say happy Thanksgiving to all – it’s been a great year for me and I’ve got so much to be thankful for. My health, my job, my son and my wife. I also would like to say thanks for all the great fans and contributors to the site – whether by donations or comments, you help make this site thrive. ...see full post

#578: Nongshim Shin Ramyun Black Premium Noodle Soup

UPDATED REVIEW – uses a recipe from EatYourKimchi.com! See it HERE!

First off, I want to thank Greg B. of Florida for sending this one in. Shin Ramyun Black  – wow. So I should mention about the ‘ controversy in South Korea about this product. Nong Shim advertised that it had more nutritional value than it really did and was fined for misleading advertising ( Korean Herald article here ). It was extremely popular and I believe it still is. It costs much more than regular Shin Ramyun too. I’ll have to say that I’ve been waiting for just the right day to review this one! Let’s see what’s inside this interesting package of South Korean instant noodles! ...see full post

#562: Batchelors Super Noodles Bacon Flavour

When I mentioned I would be reviewing this to my friend Matthew B., he exclaimed ‘bacon is the opiate of the masses!’ I would have to agree; there is nothing on this planet as good as the prince of foods, bacon. With that, I present for your viewing pleasure, bacon flavored British instant noodles. Thanks again, Cindy! ...see full post

#523: Dragonfly Artificial Hot & Sour Shrimp Flavor Instant Noodles

Hate to say it but this is the last of the Dragonfly brand bowls I found at H-Mart… Bummer! I guess there’s a pork flavor out there in this line so hopefully I’ll end up scoring that one next time I go to H-Mart. Hot & sour shrimp… Sounds like Tom Yum flavor… I guess we’ll see… ...see full post

#499: Dragonfly Artificial Beef Flavor Instant Noodles

I was quite happy to see a few new big bowl style instant noodles when I was at an Asian grocery the other day, especially Dragonfly brand – I think I’ve only reviewed a single solitary Dragonfly instant noodle thus far. Now I think there’s at least four or five to do! Well, let’s start with this one. Beefalicious? Let’s hope so – I mean it IS the review before the big psychological number 500! ...see full post

#490: FoodMon DJ-DOC Instant Ramen Rice Toppokki

First things first. My wife pointed this out at a Korean supermarket here in town and I was like ‘what the heck is this?’ So we got it and I’ve had some issues with it. First, I had a lot of problems finding out how to cook it. Also, what was it called??? As you can see, there’s one of those funky square bar codes on top of the container here. I went and scanned it with my Android phone and sent it to the Google translate. Click here to see what it comes up with… ...see full post

#483: Itomen Yellow Buckwheat Ramen Bowl

This one was a puzzle – the only things in English on the packaging wwas a website called itomen.co.jp. I sent out a call for help in identifying this one and got help from a reader named Eric Z. from Parkland, FL! He scanned the bar code on the image and found it on Google! Not too shabby! Thanks again! Now let’s open this one up and see what’s inside. ...see full post

#460: Menraku Japanese Tempura “Udon”

Got a new ramen container – we moved some stuff around and now I have our wicker laundry hamper for noodle storage! It’s actually quite nice – and also makes it easy to just put my hand in and grab a random ramen to rate. I’m sure I’ll post a picture of it sooner or later. Anyways, today I picked  This one – hoping that it’s good as I’m famished and this just isn’t the day for a bad bowl of noodles. ...see full post

#449: Wu-Mu Beef Flavor Ramen Mi Bo

This package was part of a five pack found at a 99 Ranch near Anaheim, CA. I’ve never seen such a basic variety from Wu-Mu before and it really piqued my curiosity. Wu-Mu prides itself on being a more premium brand and doesn’t fry their noodles but steams them. The result is less fat this whole pack has only 4g fat, compared to something like 14-22 grams in a fried instant noodle. Let’s see how this stuff is for breakfast with a couple of eggs. ...see full post

#412: Maruchan Midori No Tanuki Instant Soba Bowl

Okay so here’s something completely different for the most part. You’ll possibly remember my review on Maruchan’s Kitsune Udon? Well, this looks the same except its in a bowl whose label has more of a green label. I found the name after a search on Google as all I could read was Oriental Noodles. So something interesting I found was what this stuff’s title translates to – green raccoon! Here’s an except from a page on thisnext.com: ...see full post

#401: Myojo Suudon-Desse Soy Sauce Flavor Japanese Style Soup Noodles

So some of the comments I’ve received lately have been from folks who really liked Maruchan Kitsune Udon bowls. Unfortunately, those aren’t being produced anymore, at least for the USA. So I thought maybe to begin the 400’s here we’d look at a couple of Myojo’s bowls which I’ve found to be quite good. ...see full post
