In early December-ish, I found a neat post on Instagram about Nissin Deutschland’s Instant Noodle Advent Calendar. I thought it would be a great thing to show peopole for Christmastime! Well, I contacted them a little late, and so it literally arrived yesterday (Jan 2nd). Well, it’s way too cool not to show and if they do one again next year, I’ve set a reminder to find out at the beginning of November – I think it would be fun to do one every day until Christmas and do a video cooking it. As you may know at this point. I’m a huge fan of Prima Taste’s Laksa and Curry LaMian for ages now. Awesome noodle and broth – really worth trying. It’s been on my global top ten – it’s that good. This stuff has been enjoyable in the past and if it’s what I think it is, it should be even better. The Choi restaurant ramen is excellent – curious to see how it goes – but for now let’s take a look at it !@
Usually when I’m least expecting it or if I’m low on noodles to review, a box shows up from James of Lakeside, California. It’s pretty crazy. A few redditors mentioned a few chili crisps they thought should be on my Chili Crisp Roundup post and so I reached out and Barnacle Foods’ Kelp Chili Crisp was one of them. You can get it here. As of publishing this, I haven’t tried it yet, but soon it will be on that roundup post, as well as tried with different ramen! This one sounded particularly interesting as many acquaintances over the years from my hometown of Anacortes would head up to Alaksa to do commercial fishing. I also played with kelp when I was a kid on the shore – yeah we didn’t have a whole lot to do.Maybe your ramen junkie friend would like this for the holidays? I’ll be honest: I never really thought a whole lot about disposable forks and instant noodles. I did at one point have a special page where I displayed different utensils found in instant noodles and a big jar I kept them in. But after a time, a big jar on my desk that was overflowing with fork was cramping my style. Recently, I was asked by a company called Hello Straw if I’d check their disposable forks out. I’ve reviewed a lot of cups in my day and thought sure, why not. Hello Straw makes some really neat looking straws – made of paper. But what they sent me were forks made of paper! Who would’ve thought such a thing could work? I did a video testing them out –

If you’ve thought ‘hey I wonder what a Funyuns and Maruchan Instant Lunch had a baby, what would it taste like?’ then you’re a very strange individual. But that’s what we have here. Granted, these aren’t the product of some strange snack mating ritual, but hey it’s a snack nonetheless. I’ve seen them just about everywhere lately. I’ve tried quite a few different varieties from Taiwan and other points around the world. What’s interesting about this one is that it’s a Southeast Asian variety (Malaysia, Singapore) coming from Taiwan. Sounds interesting, especially t me as a fan of curries and fish ball. I kept seeing these on Amazon and so I decided to reach out to the company for samples, which they kindly sent – thanks! Noodle Revolution is really a fascinating product. These are noodles made almost entirely from egg white. I’ll show you what I did with them in this unboxing. You can purchase them here. The ramen style thicker, vermicelli thinner. I thought upon stirring, the vermicelli would just turn to mush and break up, but that certainly wasn’t the case. Not at all rubbery, with a good mouthfeel and softness. I was really impressed by this – check em out!
Over the years, I’ve tried a lot of different additions to instant noodles and chili oils, pastes, and crisps have become a bit of a thing more people are becoming interested in, as have I. This one is a Malaysian type – hae bee hiam. Really great stuff and I’ll go into it here. You can pick up some from Homiah! It’s only been a couple of times I’ve been sent instant noodles that are available only if you get in trouble and go to prison. Both times have been from folks who work in correctional institutions and want to remain anonymous, so thank you anonymous donors! This video below will go over four varieties you might have never heard about unless you have been to jail/prison. They have a lot of clear space on them to dissuade folks from trying to hide stuff in them to bring in – drugs, weapons, etc. I’m really excited to receive these and not have to go to prison to try them – I’ve tried contacting Maruchan’s distributor in the past and gotten a firm ‘no’ as to getting samples. ‘You’re saying I have to go to prison to sample the product?’ ‘Yes. We won’t send you any.’ Rude! Well, again thank you to my anonymous friend who sent me these and didn’t make me adopt a life of crime to give them a taste. If you’ve had to be on ice for a period of time and tried these varieties, how did you prepare them? I’ve done prison ramen burritos aplenty, but I kind of want to do something different.
