I’ve seen this one online a few times recently, but never in the store – until a couple of weeks ago, that is! I really liked the pack version of this one – made the 2014 Top Ten Instant Noodles Of All Time list – the first vegetarian one to do so. The pack was made in South Korea – but this cup is made here in the United States at Nongshim America down in sunny Rancho Cucamonga, California. I went and visited Nongshim America in 2012 – was really neat – big factory and nice people! Let’s check out this cup and see how it compares to the pack version.

#1678: Nongshim Shin Black Spicy Pot-Au-Feu Flavor (New Edition)
It’s been a long time since I’ve reviewed Nongshim Shin Black – and it’s gotten a packaging facelift. This is made here in the USA in Rancho Cucamonga, California! This is the ‘flagship’ of their new line of ‘Black Class Noodle Soup’ varieties. This one’s got neww clothes – but is it still the same underneath? Let’s have a look at this dressed up pack of Nongshim Shin Black noodles!
#1622: Nongshim Quick2 Hot & Spicy Noodle Soup With Habanero & Lime
Quick2 is a new one from Nongshim America. The 2 has to do with the cooking time of two minutes. I find this one interesting; kind of a departure from their more premium lines and if you notice the color and lines, it more resembles a pack version of a Nongshim Bowl Noodle in graphic design. Let’s have a look at Nongshim Quick2 and see what’s inside!
#1593: Nongshim Tteokgukmyun
This one came from Anders E., a reader in South Korea – thanks! He mentioned that this variety is often enjoyed on Korean New Year, and since that was a couple days ago, I thought I’d have it today. Here’s a little info about how it fits in with Lunar New Year celebrations from wikipedia:
#1515: Nongshim Neoguri Udon Seafood & Mild
It’s a really cold day today and I think a big bowl of seafood noodles sound good. This is a Nongshim Neoguri I got up in Canada. It’s made in South Korea and it’s the milder version of Neoguri. Raccoons I say raccoons! Why do I say raccoons? Well, check out the video at the end of the post – it’ll all become clear I think. Let’s dig in to some Nongshim Neoguri!
#1421: Nongshim Korean Clay Pot Ramyun Noodle
As with many instant noodle companies, Nongshim has plants all over the world. Usually, these factories produce flavors that are popular in the countries they are located in, as well as well known favorites. This one is a variety made in China and I found it up in Canada. It seems that many of the ones made in China are available up in Canada, although I’ve never seen them here in the USA – curious. Let’s have a look!
#1366: Nongshim Sir Long Tang Creamy Beef Noodle Soup
Here’s something new and different from Nongshim. The name might seem a little odd, but it’s a play on the name of a traditional South Korean beef soup called Seoulleongtang, which has a broth which is simmered for a long time with ox bones. I’ve liked non-spicy South Korean beef noodle soups in the past – let’s see how this one fares!
#1308: Nongshim Soon Veggie Noodle Soup
Here’s a new one from Nongshim for the vegetable crown. At first, I thought it would be a tofu based variety; the reason was that I’ve gone to a local Korean restaurant and ordered ‘Soon Tofu’ a few times, which is a spicy soup with tofu in it. Well, ‘soon’ translates to ‘soft.’ Well, tofu is a vegetarian friendly construct, so I thought I’d give it a try today with this new one. A few people have been asking about this one, so with that, let’s check it out.
A Nice Gift From Nongshim America
Got a box from Nongshim America today. They were stoked on the story that came out about my ramyun burger recipe. Thank you very much! Let’s see what’s inside!
#1178: Nongshim Shin Black Spicy Pot-au-feu Flavor Premium Noodle Soup
You might be thinking, ‘hey – didn’t he already review this?’ Nope – I reviewed the Shin Ramyun Black cup from South Korea. This is the one that is manufactured here in the United States in Rancho Cucamonga, California. So what is this ‘Pot-au-feu’ flavor? I consulted Wikipedia and found this:
Grilled Kimchi’n’Cheese Shinwich
So I saw this recipe here and I thought hmmm… What a great idea! But I thought it might go better a little done differently…
The Ramen Rater’s Shin Ramyun Black Burger
Recently, I came up with the ramyun slider. I thought since I’ve got some Shin Black on hand, why not a full-fledged ramyun burger? This recipe came out great and really wasn’t that hard to do.
Spicy Mi Goreng Ramyun
Ok so what is this madness I speak of? Well, in Indonesia, there’s Mi Goreng which are fried noodles. I thought since my last recipe got a write up today in Fox News Magazine ( link), maybe I should get a pack and experiment. I thought since Indonesian instant noodles are my all time faves and I really really enjoy Korean ramyun, why not try a mash-up?

A Nice Gift From Nongshim America
Got a nice and hefty box in the mail!
Nongshim America sent three of my favorites (they all made the Top Ten USA list) as a thank you for recognizing their products worthy of being in the list! Thanks! Think I’ll attempt a Shin Black Ramyun Burger for Labor Day!
#1042: Nongshim Potato Pork Ramyun
Another one I got while in Canada for my birthday. I’m sure many folks will immediately ask ‘where did you get this’ and ‘where can I get it,’ and I’ll just say I’ve only seen this in Canada. See, they get stuff in the Vancouver area from not only the Nongshim plant here in the states but the one in Shanghai, China. Got a couple more coming down the pipe of reviews soon that hail from China. Let’s check this out!
#962: Nongshim Bowl Noodle Soup Spicy Seafood Flavor (New Version)
I reviewed the original version (non-microwavable) quite a while back and really liked it – it even made the Top Ten Instant Noodle Bowls list. Today I’m going to check out the new version.
Re-Review: Nongshim Kimchi Ramyun Noodles With Soup
My Aunt and her daughter went to an Asian store in San Francisco and picked up some noodles for me! Here’s one of them. Been wanting to re-review therm for a while! Thanks!!!

#907: Nongshim Neoguri Spicy Seafood Flavor Cup
Here’s something new – Neoguri Spicy in a cup! Kind of interesting; Neoguri usually has a wider Udon-like noodle and I don’t know that I’ve seen anything like that in a cup form before. Well, let’s have a look.
The Ramen Rater Challenges PSY To A Ramyun Eating Contest!
10/17/2012
I saw a video recently about PSY being a huge fan of Korean instant ramyun – Nongshim’s Shin Ramyun in particular. He sent a video showing him eating their noodles with a definite excitement and pride. He wants to be the next representative of their products! I got to say, this was really was cool to see. I feel a definite kinship with PSY on this matter – instant ramyun is amazing stuff!
#877: Nongshim Shin Bowl Noodle Soup (New Version)
Realized I haven’t reviewed the new version of the Shin Bowl. A lot of people have asked if I noted any difference from the old version (non-microwaveable) and the new one. Well, I guess we shall see!
#845: Nongshim Doong Ji Authentic Korean Cold Noodles in Chilled Broth
Well, time for another try with cold noodles! Been really enjoying them recently – curious how these will fare – look pretty fancy!
Special: Nongshim Jinjja Jinjja + Peanut Butter, Kimchi & BACON!!!
Good news and bad news. Bad news: no reviews for about a week (we’re going on vacation). The good news: I will leave you with the first ever bacon monstrosity!
Grilled Kimchi’n’Cheese Shinwich
So I saw this recipe here and I thought hmmm… What a great idea! But I thought it might go better a little done differently…
Meet The Manufacturer: An Interview With Nongshim America
Re-Review: Meet The Manufacturer: Nongshim Jinjja Jinjja (Really Really) Ramyun
Since my last review of this product, I found out that I made it wrong! Yup… I suppose if I could read Korean I would’ve made it right. It turns out that the red packet goes in first with the noodles and cooks, and the peanut and veggies go in last after everything’s cooked! I’m hungry – gonna do it exactly as I’m supposed to this time! Here’s the old review.
#754: Nongshim Ansungtangmyun Spicy Miso Noodle Soup (USA version)
Okay so I thought this was interesting. Look at the noodle block in this one – very different isn’t it? Well, Let’s give this one a try – this one was made in the USA in Rancho Cucamonga, California.
Re-Review: Meet The Manufacturer: Nongshim Kal Guk Soo Korean Style Noodle Soup
#750: Meet The Manufacturer: Nongshim Bowl Noodles Spicy Kimchi Flavor (New Version)
I figured for Meet The Manufacturer Week: Nongshim, I would start with a Bowl Noodles I saw get made while I was at their plant! They were cranking them out en masse! I’ve reviewed the old packaging / version in the past and these new ones are very different. They’re made to be cooked in the microwave, so that’s how I’ll cook them.
Meet The Manufacturer: Nongshim America Visit
Here we go with another Meet The Manufacturer week! This one’s a little different of course since my wife and I actually took a trip and met the people who are Nongshim America! It was an amazing and fun visit – so without further adieu, here’s what happened. By the way, if you click on the images they get much bigger.
Awesome Promotional Gifts From Nongshim America!
Donation Of Samples From Nongshim America & Nongshim Korea!
I got two shipments today – one from Nongshim America, which I visited last week (there’ll be a lot of stuff all about the visit, the plant tour and the people very soon!). Here’s the first one from Nongshim America!
#683: Nongshim Udon Premium Noodle Dish Garlic Teriyaki
The folks at Nong Shim sent me a box of these last week! Thanks again! Can’t wait to visit the big factory in May! I’ve not seen this before and from what I gather it is brand spanking new! Garlic teriyaki sounds awesome – let’s see how it goes!
#453: Nongshim Savory Bowl Noodle Chicken Flavored Noodle Soup
So I thought I’d tried every single variety of these but I found yet another in California! This is just chicken – not spicy chicken. So here we go with the noodling!
#342: Nongshim Shin Big Bowl Gourmet Spicy Noodle Soup
So here we go – an even larger container of Nong Shim Shin Ramyun!
Styrofoam! Ready for battle!!!
#291: Nongshim Gourmet Spicy Shin Bowl Noodle Soup
Shin Bowl. So this should be exactly like Shin Ramyun but in a bowl, right? I’m going to figure it isn’t because the noodles usually seem different with bowl noodles.
TOP TEN SOUTH KOREA 2024
This one usually comes out in January, but a little late this year on edits. However, this one’s ready to go! This is my list of favorite South Korean varieties from my reviews up to number 4,650. Definitely want to try more South Korean varieties – especially those only found in South Korea – not export versions if at all possible. Anyways, let’s boil some water and check out The Ramen Rater’s Top Ten South Korean Instant Noodles Of All Time 2024 Edition!

TOP TEN SOUTH KOREA 2023
After a couple years, here’s The Ramen Rater’s Top Ten South Korean Instant Noodles Of All Time 2023 Edition. It’s been a sort of tough go lately; so few new Korean varieties have crossed my desk. Usually they’ve all been ultra spicy ones, and while good, they’ve not been ones that are top ten listers. There should be a few new ones to the list for next years list that have yet to be published, though. If you’ve an instant noodle company in South Korea, I’d love to review your products. I used to receive samples from the larger companies quite often, but unfortunately not so much recently. This list is comprised of varieties from South Korea that I’ve reviewed up to my 4,300th review. With that, here’s The Ramen Rater’s Top Ten South Korean Instant Noodles Of All Time 2023 Edition!
