Welcome to the newest edition of The Ramen Rater Noodle News!
I scour the Internet looking for interesting news and stories about everyone’s favorite ingestible, instant noodles and ramen.
Here’s another of the regional varieties. Couldn’t find anything much about it really – except this snippet from a Squidoo lens:

Okay so here’s another soup – Soto Banjar. First off, here’s what Wikipedia says about Soto:
This is the stuff of legend – probably Indomie’s most well-known product and extremely popular the world over. Mi Goreng means fried noodles. This is awesome stuff! I’m going to have it with egg, beef, veggies AND cheese . Here’s a part of the interview I did with Indomie:
Today I continue reviews for Meet The Manufacturer: Indomie week! This is another one, sent to me from Jakarta, Indonesia by Indomie – thanks again! So what does Empal Gentong consist of? What does it mean? Here’s what I found on Wikipedia:
Hey look at this! This came from Michael C. at Eastland Foods a little while back – thanks! What we have here is one of the products that should be available here in the states soon (according to my Indomie interview). It’s exactly what it looks like – Mi Goreng in a cup! Read the interview I did with Indomie here!
So we start off Meet The Manufacturer: Indomie week with something new – most of the reviews I’ll be doing will come from a shipment of samples I received a few weeks back from Indonesia. Indofood sent them very kindly and I want to thank them again for their generosity. So here we go with something completely different! Read the interview I did with Indomie here!
Interview * Donation from Indofood CBP Sukses Makmur * Donation from Eastland Foods * Indomie Curly Noodle With Special Laksa & Chilli * Indomie Mi Goreng Instant Cup Noodles * Indomie Mi Goreng Cakalang Khas Sulawesi Utara * Indomie Mi Instan Rasa Empal Gentong Khas Jawa Barat * Indomie Mi Instan Rasa Kari Ayam Medan Khas Sumatera Utara * Indomie Mi Instan Mi Goreng Jumbo * Indomie Mi Instan Rasa Soto Banjar Limau Kuit Khas Kalimantan Selatan * Indomie Mi Instan Rasa Mi Kocok Bandung Khas Jawa Barat * Indomie Curly Noodle With Chicken & Chilli Paddi * Indomie Mi Instan Rasa Soto Betawi Khas Jakarta * Indomie Mi Instan Mi Goreng Rasa Ayam Panggang Jumbo
Hey – haven’t I reviewed this before? Nope! This is the regular sized package – Michael C. from Eastland Foods sent me this one – thanks! Like I’ve always said, I try to review everything I can get my hands on – this is the regular sized package and not the Jumbo package that’s in the Top Ten list. Some might find this a little silly, but not I! Besides; I love eating this stuff. So with that, let’s try out the non-Jumbo version of Indomie’s Mi Goreng BBQ Chicken!
Some Japanese stuff that’s been waiting for just the right day – and this is it. I may have not translated the title exactly right – a few things mentioned ‘thickening’ and ‘flour,’ so this may be thick seafood ramen. Anyways, shall we?
Here’s the tenth installment of The Ramen Rater Noodle News! I look around the Internet and bring all sorts of interesting stories and articles about instant ramen noodles here! Enjoy!
The nice folks at Nongshim were kind enough to send some samples of this new beef variety recently. Haven’t tried any of them since they’ve gone with the new outer packaging! Let’s give it a try!
Here’s one of the more exotic varieties I’ve gotten. This one was sent to me by Carter B. of Lancaster, PA! Thanks! Your stickers are in the mail! He picked these up in Mali and brought them back and sent them to me! Very kind! Let’s have a look.
Yep – yet another one of these. So far I’ve enjoyed them as lot! They’re part of the box of samples that Nissin Foods USA sent for Meet The Manufacturer week. Anyways, check it out!
Got three entries for week fourteen! entries! If you’re new to The Ramen Rater’s Show Your Noodles, every week you can email me a picture of some noodles you’ve made. include your name and location and I’ll post it on the weekly roundup! Fancy or functional, it doesn’t matter. I mean, you could do literally anything you want with some instant noodles – use your imagination! Want to be part of next week’s Show Your Noodles? 3/19/2013 – UPDATE – Check this new article out – I was published on consumeraffairs.com
Thanks to this sample from Nick over at OrderRamen, today I’m trying the third entry into the ring of ‘white broth’ ramyuns from Korea. The others, Paldo’s Kko Kko Myun and Samyang’s Nagasaki Jjampong I found to taste a lot like Jalapeno Cheese Cheetos! Very curious if Ottogi’s offering is like that too. Let’s find out!
I got an email on facebook from a guy named Carter B. a while back – he mentioned he was in Mali and that there were some instant noodles he’d like to bring back and send me. How could I say no to that? I had all but forgotten about the offer when I got a message saying he was back in the states and had some to send!
Nick at www.OrderRamen.com mentioned he got in something new last week and asked if I’d like a sample.
Here’s another one of the samples Nissin Foods USA were kind enough to send me. Thanks! Spicy chicken today huh? sounds good to me.
Stewed fish huh? Found this one at Uwajimaya in Seattle around my birthday. It says there’s fish in there… Hmm.
I couldn’t wait for Meet The Manufacturer: Indomie week to try this. It’s a nice day here in the low 70’s and this said ‘eat me,’ so I will. This was one of the ones sent to me by Susienta S. of Indofoods CBR in Jakarta, Indonesia! Thanks again – and let’s give this one a try! Hey wait a minute – maybe we should research this a little first. So. what I’ve heard is that Rendang is a spicy beef curry. Here’s what Wikipedia has to say about Rendang:
Here’s a rather uniquely titled one that the nice folks at Ramen Place sent along! I think I would rearrange the title right now to Is Nature Delicious? I guess that what we’re trying to find out with this review. Pulmuone seems to put out products that try to appeal to the health conscious. Let give it a try!
Last evening, my wife and I both started really getting attacked by an insidious enemy. One that doesn’t show itself but just occurs without warning. Allergies. Eyes, nose throat; everything just seemed to be very busy making us miserable. At this point, I would usually turn to an old standby my mother used to make for me when my face’s innards went awry like this – Mrs. Grass Chicken Soup Mix. Wonderful stuff – it has a little rubbery golden egg shaped thing called (I’m totally not kidding about this) ‘The Golden Flavor Nugget.’ Lots and lots of noodles and chickenny goodness. Well, we don’t have any, so I thought I’d go ahead and hit up this one. Creamy chicken flavor is one of my favorites – and Nissin doesn’t make creamy chicken Top Ramen anymore so I wonder how this stuff is. So off we go intgo noodle land!
Here’s one my sister brought me down from Canada! Thanks, Sue!!! Seaweed flavor, huh? Well, let’s check it out!
I thought today I’d review this one, sent to me by the nice folks at Ramen Place – thanks! Was thinking it would go nicely with some of the stir fry veggies I’ve been enjoying lately. I also talked with Ray from Nongshim today – found out a little bit of information that you might find interesting if you didn’t know. Nongshim’s logo is a seed, and Nongshim translates to ‘Farmer’s Heart.’ I like that – and we’ll see how I like these noodles now!
Here we go again with another installment of The Ramen Rater Noodle News – all the news that’s fit to slurp! I scour the internet for the best news about instant noodles and deliver it here! Some good ones this week! So

Been saving this one for just the right day – and here it is! Mixed foods flavor?! Wow this is a fascinating one – never have I found an instant noodle with such a non-descript totle! Surf and turf? Not sure what’s going on here but we’ll give ‘er a try!
Here’s another Nissin – had to make something quick today – it’s my wife’s birthday! Happy birthday, Kitten!
Got this on our recent trip to California at a 99 Ranch down there. I rememebr enjoying the beef one I got the time before in California during our honeymoon, so figured it’d be a good idea to give this one a try!
Here’s another of these Mee Jang Noodle Soups. I like the label – if you aren’t keen on reading and just scan a bowl of instant food and decide to eat, watch out for this stuff! So far I’ve found these to be quite spicy! Let’s see how this one comes out!
Are you ready for the Man Han Feast???! I suppose I am! Wow – what an interesting bowl of noodles – VERY curious to see what lurks within…
Check it out – a new Golden Wheat! My sister brought this back from Canada for me for my birthday! Let’s check it out!
Yup – it’s that time again for another installment of Show Your Noodles. Only one submission this week – I know you guys are out there eating noodles! Take a picture and send it in and become famous(ish)! Send pics of your ramen meals to hans@theramenrater.com and they’ll be in next week’s Show Your Noodles!
Well folks, this is the last one I’ll be reviewing for Meet The Manufacturer: Nissin week. There will be more Nissin reviews coming of course so don’t worry. The ramen hamper runneth over with new varieties to try! So this is a very old one – old as in I reviewed it was back at number #85 – over 600 reviews ago. I think it’s due.
Here’s another of the new Spoon it line of noodle soups from Nissin! Beef stew sounds tasty…
