I’ve had the pleasure of working with quite a few companies on these Meet The Manufacturer series over the years. This was a very unique experience – I’ve tried many products from the company in the past but never had access to such a wide range. They send an enormous 400 pound pallet of their products! This is an interview that I conducted with Sun Shun Fuk, makers of the Sau Tao range of products.
Here’s the third of three new single pack offerings from Hakubaku. Miso is a style of broth is either love or hate. I have a feeling this one isn’t going to fall into the latter category. I’ve been trying a lot of instants for a long time and really hoping this one fits the ‘approval’ bill. Let’s find out!
Here’s yet another one sent by James from Lakeside, California – thanks! Man, I’m beat – woke up at 12:30am. I have one night every once in a while that I end up starting my day exceedingly early. I know I’ll sleep really well tonight. It’s funny too as I’ll be hanging out with the kids in the morning and nod off. They run up to me and yell ‘Papa! Wake up! Wake up!’ I think that’s going to be going on this morning… Luckily, my kids are cute and awesome… Today my plan is to go get a ton of steps in. Starting at 3:30am. Let’s get this done.
Bowls, cups, , trays, packs, and boxes. Well, I haven’t done a list of boxed or tray-style instant noodles – maybe that will come soon. But I think that separating these is important. The experience that a cup is meant for is different than a cup or bowl. Cups are more for a snack on the go, packs for when you’ve got a stove, and bowls are, well, for lunch. Although in the finished shots of these you’ll see them plated here, generally people will be looking at the bowl they came in, possibly using the plastic fork they came with, and tossing everything once they’re done. Here’s another fancy one from Mom’s Dry Noodle! Now, many of you probably haven’t tried anything with blood in it. Let me reassure you that I have and there are some really great foods that do contain it from many places. Malaysian White Curry often contains coagulated duck blood, while in Taiwan I’ve tried pork blood rice cake which was absolutely wonderful stuff. I know it’s popular in a Vietnamese soup as well.
Saw these new varieties at my local grocery store recently, so I thought I’d contact the company. They got back with me, and I’m happy to say I’ll be doing a collab with them soon where you’ll have the chance to get something neat as a prize! Rad!!! This one was sent by Nongshim America – thanks again! Tonkotsu is a Japanese style ramen, usually a creamy pork rich broth. This one is boasting an added spiciness which sound interesting. Not only that, it’s a microwavable variety. Let’s see how it tastes!

Ah ha! I knew I had more of these bowls! I walk by this every time I go to 99 Ranch Market but I don’t buy more because I swore I already bought all of them. Well, here’s another one. Bowl is a little dented (okay, a lot dented) but it’s fine. Let’s give it a try!
Looks like this is a local version (I do’t know that there is export ones) of Paldo’s Jjol Bibim Men. After a little researxh, it looks lik the difference between this as their Bibim Men are the noodles are chewier in this one. Let’s give it a try!
I recently tried the rice vermicelli version of this and really enjoyed it. Today it’s the cup noodle version. I’m curious how this will do with a wheat noodle. Let’s find out.

Another one from James of Lakeside, CA – thanks again! So, what have we here? Well, this is a special ramen – clam flavor (shijimi) – specially about sumo (chikara). Clam noodle soup for wrestlers. Sounds interesting – let’s check it out!
KOKA released 3 varieties in this range and this is the second of the three I’m reviewing today. Duck is a bit of a mystery to me. I love duck and I feel that it is the most neglected meat in Western cuisine. In Asia I’ve had duck on every visit – it’s everywhere and it’s such wonderful, tasty meat.

The packaging certainly is neat looking, and it’s gota brand I’ve not heard of which is always something I like. New is goo, although from what I see this brand has been around for some time. Let’s take a look.

Awhile back, Lemonilo started producing a Mie Goreng variety which is honestly one of the best out there. Lemonilo puts everything in a healthy light. When they sent me the samples of their Mie Goreng, they included a shirt and a workout towel. I keep the towel on the stroller actually – handy when doing a dozen miles at a fast clip. This variety’s packaging clearly denoted it’s for the US market, however it’s made in Indonesia. This pack did’n’t come from them though – it was sent by a reader named James in Lakeside, California. Hey look – something totally new and different from MyKuali! They told me that fish noodle is a hawker stall staple over in Penang. Very curious about this one, as this isn’t supposed to be spicy which is a departure from all their other varieties which do have a strong spiciness. Let’s give it a go!
Right now it’s about 3 weeks until Lunar New Year aka CNY. This is another neat variety found at 99 Ranch Market. They’ve got lots of treats and specialty items to celebrate the holiday and to be honest, this is one of my favorite times of year. This will post probably 3 months afterwards though. Okay so yes – these are mad ein South Korea. They’re made for the French market though. I recently reviewed the spicy flavor variety and made this one in the past and shared with daughter Miriam and really liked it as well. Let’s crack it open and give it a go!

A new recipe for 2019 – they change recipes a lot at MyKuali. It’s definitely a Malaysian thing, that’s for sure. I like that though – definitely neat to see companies tweak recipes every so often and see what they come up with. Let’s give this one a try – I’m guess it’s going to be strng with a sweet prawn flavor.
