Welcome to the newest edition of The Ramen Rater Noodle News!
I scour the Internet looking for interesting news and stories about everyone’s favorite ingestible, instant noodles and ramen.
Here’s another of the regional varieties. Couldn’t find anything much about it really – except this snippet from a Squidoo lens:

Okay so here’s another soup – Soto Banjar. First off, here’s what Wikipedia says about Soto:
This is the stuff of legend – probably Indomie’s most well-known product and extremely popular the world over. Mi Goreng means fried noodles. This is awesome stuff! I’m going to have it with egg, beef, veggies AND cheese . Here’s a part of the interview I did with Indomie:
Today I continue reviews for Meet The Manufacturer: Indomie week! This is another one, sent to me from Jakarta, Indonesia by Indomie – thanks again! So what does Empal Gentong consist of? What does it mean? Here’s what I found on Wikipedia:
Hey look at this! This came from Michael C. at Eastland Foods a little while back – thanks! What we have here is one of the products that should be available here in the states soon (according to my Indomie interview). It’s exactly what it looks like – Mi Goreng in a cup! Read the interview I did with Indomie here!
So we start off Meet The Manufacturer: Indomie week with something new – most of the reviews I’ll be doing will come from a shipment of samples I received a few weeks back from Indonesia. Indofood sent them very kindly and I want to thank them again for their generosity. So here we go with something completely different! Read the interview I did with Indomie here!
Interview * Donation from Indofood CBP Sukses Makmur * Donation from Eastland Foods * Indomie Curly Noodle With Special Laksa & Chilli * Indomie Mi Goreng Instant Cup Noodles * Indomie Mi Goreng Cakalang Khas Sulawesi Utara * Indomie Mi Instan Rasa Empal Gentong Khas Jawa Barat * Indomie Mi Instan Rasa Kari Ayam Medan Khas Sumatera Utara * Indomie Mi Instan Mi Goreng Jumbo * Indomie Mi Instan Rasa Soto Banjar Limau Kuit Khas Kalimantan Selatan * Indomie Mi Instan Rasa Mi Kocok Bandung Khas Jawa Barat * Indomie Curly Noodle With Chicken & Chilli Paddi * Indomie Mi Instan Rasa Soto Betawi Khas Jakarta * Indomie Mi Instan Mi Goreng Rasa Ayam Panggang Jumbo
Hey – haven’t I reviewed this before? Nope! This is the regular sized package – Michael C. from Eastland Foods sent me this one – thanks! Like I’ve always said, I try to review everything I can get my hands on – this is the regular sized package and not the Jumbo package that’s in the Top Ten list. Some might find this a little silly, but not I! Besides; I love eating this stuff. So with that, let’s try out the non-Jumbo version of Indomie’s Mi Goreng BBQ Chicken!
Some Japanese stuff that’s been waiting for just the right day – and this is it. I may have not translated the title exactly right – a few things mentioned ‘thickening’ and ‘flour,’ so this may be thick seafood ramen. Anyways, shall we?
Here’s the tenth installment of The Ramen Rater Noodle News! I look around the Internet and bring all sorts of interesting stories and articles about instant ramen noodles here! Enjoy!
The nice folks at Nongshim were kind enough to send some samples of this new beef variety recently. Haven’t tried any of them since they’ve gone with the new outer packaging! Let’s give it a try!
Here’s one of the more exotic varieties I’ve gotten. This one was sent to me by Carter B. of Lancaster, PA! Thanks! Your stickers are in the mail! He picked these up in Mali and brought them back and sent them to me! Very kind! Let’s have a look.
Yep – yet another one of these. So far I’ve enjoyed them as lot! They’re part of the box of samples that Nissin Foods USA sent for Meet The Manufacturer week. Anyways, check it out!

Thanks to this sample from Nick over at OrderRamen, today I’m trying the third entry into the ring of ‘white broth’ ramyuns from Korea. The others, Paldo’s Kko Kko Myun and Samyang’s Nagasaki Jjampong I found to taste a lot like Jalapeno Cheese Cheetos! Very curious if Ottogi’s offering is like that too. Let’s find out!
I got an email on facebook from a guy named Carter B. a while back – he mentioned he was in Mali and that there were some instant noodles he’d like to bring back and send me. How could I say no to that? I had all but forgotten about the offer when I got a message saying he was back in the states and had some to send!
Nick at www.OrderRamen.com mentioned he got in something new last week and asked if I’d like a sample.
Here’s another one of the samples Nissin Foods USA were kind enough to send me. Thanks! Spicy chicken today huh? sounds good to me.
Here we go – this is the original instant noodle. This is what Momofuku Ando first sold in Japan! This is the real deal. Here’s a link to my post on Momofuku Ando Day!
Here’s a new flavor of chow mein to check out! Sounds pretty good – I like orange chicken.
Whoa check this out – Spoon it? This is something brand new from Nissin. Apparently, it’s been released on the east coast. I was told that noodles like this do better in colder climates (funny how the weather worked this year!). A box of noodles… Let’s check this out!
Here’s a new one from Nissin – Spicy Chicken Big Cup Noodles. Let’s give it a try!
Welcome to the second installment in the ‘Meet The Manufacturer’ series! This one’s with Nissin, makers of the ever-popular Top Ramen, Cup Noodles and the like. They sent a nice package of different instant varieties to sample – most of them new to me. The following interview is with Senior Marketing Manager, Linda Chung, facilitated by Senior Marketing Coordinator Scott Akazaki.
This week, we have two new submissions for Show Your Noodles! Anyone want to send some submissions for next week? All you need to do is take a picture of your noodles – fancy, sloppy, covered in cheese and bacon – whatever! There are no bad Show Your Noodles pics! Send your pictures and your first name, last initial and where you’re from as well as a desciption of what your noodle concoction is comprised of to hans@theramenrater.com and those noodles’ll be featured in next weeks post! My wife does the judging so here we go!
Here’s another one from Ramen Place. Japanese curry is always good – curious how this will pan out!
Here’s another one that my sister brought me back from
Canada! Today, my son Andy will be enjoying this one. He’s agreed to let me have a couple bites and a slurp of soup to do the review. Thanks, Andy and Sue!
Here’s another one my sister brought me back from Canada! This one piqued my interest – gado-gado? Wikipedia says:
Here’s another one from Ramen Place! I’ve tried the cup version which just said 60 Ingredients, but it’s got to be the same thing here, just in a pack. Let’s give it a try!
The ultra-mega hip happening noodle pot of the future is here!
Actually, not exactly here – this hot new item is in Korea! The ‘Half and Half Noodle Pot’ ( 반반라면 ) is apparently all the buzz on Google. I read an article stating that it’s the most popular search right now – weird, eh? Maybe not – this is a pretty neat little invention!
Here’s another one from Ramen Place! Thanks! I think this should be a tasty one – let’s see!
Here’s another installment of The Ramen Rater Noodle News!
I scour the Internet and find the most interesting stories about instant noodles around! Here you go!Here’s the first review I’m doing with my new camera! No more Blackberry 8900 camera – now I’ll be using a Sony Cybershot 14.1MP! Should look better now, hopefully! Today I decided to dig out this bowl – it’s one my wife got for me for my birthday at Uwajimaya. Let’s give it a looksie!
I got an email that a package was sent to me from Indomie CBP in Jakarta, Indonesia on the 16th! Well, it arrived on the 21st! Five days from Jakarta – that was impressive!
This big box was at the office today for me to pick up after work – it’s samples from Nissin USA! Well, let’s open it up and see what’s inside!
